From its rugged mountain interior to bustling, colourful cities, Morocco’s beauty has captivated travelers for centuries. A key part of the Gem of North Africa’s appeal lies in its Saharan desert dunes, Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga.
Although both Ergs’ azure skies and orange sands appear otherworldly, in reality, both sites are popular tourist traps. It has become challenging for visitors to experience the Sahara as the locals know it — a place of welcome solitude and undisturbed beauty.
When we (Abdou and Hamid) met while working in tourism, we knew we had to find a way to share the natural splendour of the deserts we grew up loving. We wanted to create camps in an environmentally friendly way to preserve the quietude that makes these Ergs unique.
Our camps
Out of our longing for a peaceful desert destination, the idea for Desert Luxury Camp was born. Nestled in the vast desert dunes of Erg Chigaga and the beautiful desert peaks of Erg Chebbi, we used our local connections and drive to create two secluded luxury camps.
Our Luxury Camp in Zniqui, Erg Chebbi offers a one-of-a-kind deluxe holiday experience. This authentic desert escape has several types of luxury tents, fully equipped with air conditioning, hot/cold running water, and private bathrooms. Our camp is hidden among dunes that rise to 150m and offers unparalleled panoramic views.
Our Luxury Camp in Erg Chigaga offers eight exclusive en suite tents nestled in a small canyon of the desert These tents are also equipped with all the necessary comforts of modern living, far away from the crowds of people and other camps.
Our sites at Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga are built upon the legendary warmth and hospitality of the Berber people. Experience the majesty of the sun rising and setting in the desert with the only sounds being the chopping of fresh fruit for breakfast and the crackling of the campfire.
At Desert Luxury Camp, we hope to give visitors a restorative sensory experience of enchantment and pure tranquility. Not to mention the excursions we offer that give a slice of local life. The ever-changing beauty of the desert is, to us, the true soul of Morocco.

Meet the two friends who shared a dream of creating a true desert oasis for visitors from around the world.
Abdou
Abdou prides himself on the hospitality Desert Luxury Camp provides and enjoys sharing the authentic side of the Saharan desert with visitors. Having grown up in a large family in one of the Sub-Saharan Berber villages in the Draa Valley, he is intimately familiar with the desert’s charms.
Abdou joined the tourism industry early on, firstly working as a camel guide. He then switched out from these ships of the desert to something a little more automatic, becoming a driver. He used his navigation skills and knowledge of popular sites to then run a tour operator company.
Abdou and Hamid met while they were working together in tourism. They instantly became close friends when they realised their joint ambition was to build two secluded spots in the dunes they knew and loved.
Hamid
Born and raised in Merzouga, Hamid knows this town and its surrounding dunes like the back of his hand. Hamid never intended to be an ambassador for Merzouga, but his passion for his hometown and a natural sense of hospitality mean he is a natural fit for tourism.
His lifetime of meeting and greeting international tourists has resulted in fluent French, English, and Spanish, as well as making acquaintances with some rather notable people – including the wife and children of King Mohammed VI of Morocco!
Over his many years working with eager visitors and taking them to the most popular places, Hamid reflected on the character of his home. How had something so vast and quiet as the desert come to feel congested and busy? How could he restore genuine serenity?
After meeting Abdou and realised they both wanted to experience the natural calm of the desert and share it with visitors from around the world, Hamid knew his Desert Luxury Camp idea could become a reality. The rest, as they say, is history!
