Marrakech
We would not recommend this luxury desert tour from Marrakech to small children due to the difficulty of reaching medical help from the desert camp at Erg Chigaga. This tour is not available during July and August.
You do not need any special equipment to participate in this tour. However, we strongly recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses if traveling in summer. And when riding camels, consider wearing longer pants, not shorts/skirts, and light sports shoes rather than sandals that can easily slip off.
It gets cold on winter nights in the desert, so pack layers, warm jackets, and even hats! Remember, sand gets everywhere, so if you plan to bring some expensive equipment with you, store it in a zip-lock bag to keep it safe from grains of sand.

We depart early from Marrakech at about 8 AM, setting out for the High Atlas Mountains which we cross to the south. This is an incredible drive with plenty of beautiful views! Then we descend into the rather sleepy town of Taznakht, famous for its handmade Berber carpets. Our route takes us along the Anti Atlas before reaching Foum Zquid. Here, we start our exciting off-road travel! Around two hours after leaving the road behind, we reach our Erg Chigaga desert camp for two unforgettable nights in the desert dunes.
After a leisurely breakfast, it’s time to explore the breathtaking region. You can enjoy some camel trekking or simply set out on foot. We’ll admire this part of the Sahara desert, learn to respect it, and appreciate how easily one can get lost in the vastness of never-ending sand dunes. We’ll have lunch in the desert dunes or an oasis and then return to camp for some downtime/relaxation before dinner and a roaring campfire.
On the final day, we make the long journey back to Marrakech the same way as we arrived. This will take around seven to eight hours.
Tip: A helicopter ride of about 1 ½ hours can save this long day of driving. The cost of the helicopter ride to Erg Chigaga and back is around $9500 USD – but please contact us for a quote.
