This would be our most recommended desert tour. Southern Morocco is stunning and very different to the rest of the country and should be on your list of Morocco travel destinations. The Sahara desert with its fine desert dunes will undoubtedly be the highlight of your time in Morocco and therefore should not be rushed and enjoyed with 2 nights spent glamping in the desert tents. On this tour you have plenty of time to visit the amazing natural landscape of the South from oasis to rocky deserts to high peaks of the mountain ranges. You’ll get a glimpse of the important past from visiting ancient Ksar and Kasbahs. You get to feel the cultural experience of Southern Morocco where traditions are so important. Of course you get to immerse yourself into the desert adventure experience with a 2 night stay in the Sahara desert.
Marrakech
We highly recommend this tour for elderly and families especially with small children. This tour will create fond memories of Morocco and children will have a supply of stories to remember. This tour runs year round but is not recommend it during the summer months.
This tour is accessible to all with no minimum age – though consider the driving distances for elderly and small children.
No special equipment needed. Though if you are traveling in summer please bring a hat, sunscreen lotion and sun glasses. For riding camels, longer pants are preferred than shorts/skirts and possibly light sport shoes/tennis rather than sandals that can slip.
Winter nights are cold! So warm jackets and even hats are great addition.
Remember sand gets everywhere so if you have some expensive equipment zip lock bags is to keep it safe from sand grains getting on it.
Your driver will collect you from your hotel or riad in Marrakech taking you to the breath taking panoramic views of the majestic High Atlas Mountains. We will visit the former palatial residence of Glaoui family , Kasbah Telouet and also the UNESCO protected sight of Ksar Ait BenHaddou. We’ll pass the city of Ouarzazate and travel along the barren gorges to Agdz. Here we descend into the Draa Valley , the longest green valley of Morocco dotted by so many palm groves. We’ll spend a night in restored ancient Kasbah or luxury hotel set in the palmerie and pretty gardens.
We recommend adding a short walk through the palm groves after breakfast. Then back on the road we travel along some of the small oasis and adobe Kasbahs. As we start approaching the desert dunes , you’ll be most likely able to spot Nomads with their herds living in tents and few desert dunes areas. Once we pass the ancient town of Rissani, the views of the desert dunes from the road will become impressive. We travel in 4WD off road vehicle to the Desert Luxury Camp away from the busy bustle of Merzouga and its hotels/camps to the quite stretch of the desert dunes. Here settle in your tent , go for walk into the beauty of the Sahara.
Today we enjoy the desert full of plenty of activities such as camel trekking, sand boarding, possibly ATV’s if you are interested and more…
We leave the Sahara Desert this morning to the old garrison town of Erfourd and further onto Tnjdad , Tinehrir arriving to the Todra Gorge. Have some time to stretch your legs here and admire the narrow rising walls that form the gorge. After our visit we continue onto Boumalne Dades. From here we take onto smaller route taking us to yet another gorge of Dades. This is a great drive with some strange form rocks sometimes refer to as Monkey feet, and the zig zagging road that towers above the road taking us to Dades Gorge.
Night in 4 star hotel in Boumalne Dades or Kasbah style hotel.
We depart after breakfast traveling to Ouarzazate. On our route we pass the Rose Valley that is beautiful in April , beginning of May where the Damascus roses are in bloom. Later onto the palm grove oasis of Skoura where we can make a stop to visit another Kasbah of Amerhidil that has been recently restored and well worth of a visit. Then we reach Ouarzazate. If you are movie fan , you can make a visit to the movie studios here. Then we reach the High Atlas that we cross back to Marrakech.
Tip: Add more days and stay 2 nights in Draa Valley visiting the area of Zagora and Tamengroute.
