On this journey you embark on a 3 day desert tour and get a full view how amazing and diverse the Southern Morocco is. You will cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, view the Barbary apes, pass many traditional Berber villages, view ancient Ksours, cross the High Atlas and mainly get to experience a night in the luxury tent in the Sahara desert.
Fes or Marrakech if tour is done in reverse order.
This tour is accessible to all with no minimum age – though consider the driving distances for elderly and small children. This tour is great for people of all ages.
No special equipment needed. Though if you are traveling in summer please bring a hat, sunscreen lotion and sun glasses. For riding camels, longer pants are preferred than shorts/skirts and possibly light sport shoes/tennis rather than sandals that can slip.
Winter nights are cold! So warm jackets and even hats are great addition.
Remember sand gets everywhere so if you have some expensive equipment zip lock bags is to keep it safe from sand grains getting on it.
We will collect you early morning from Fez and leave the crowded city behind as we venture into the countryside of Morocco with plenty of fresh air. We stop in Ifrane to take photo of the lion statue – once the lion roamed the forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains. We make a stop to also view the Barbary macaques monkey near Azrou. The drive is long but beautiful with always changing landscape. Later we start descending into the Ziz valley full of typical villages. Finally we arrive to Desert Luxury Camp where after settling in we’ll enjoy a refreshing drink.
Tonight we have a dinner either in the tented restaurant or outside by candle lights. Then campfire will be lit, gather around in company of other travelers if staying in Main camp and listen the drumming music from the staff.
We don’t have such a long drive ahead of us today so we will stay in the Sahara to enjoy the desert dunes as much as we can! Morning after breakfast we head off into the vastness of the desert dunes on camels with our camel guide and admire the beautiful region some more. We’ll have a picnic lunch either on the desert dunes / oasis or back in camp. Then perhaps have a try at the sand boarding or swim in the tented swimming pool before departure.
The road will be straight without any twisting peaks. We will be seeing weirdly shaped mountains and eventually reach the Draa Valley, the prettiest green palm oasis of Morocco. Night in 150 year old restored Kasbah or luxury private villas set inside the palm groves.
On the last day we travel to Marrakech. At first we’ll be traveling through the stretches of the Draa Valley and typical villages where many homes are still made the traditional ways of mud dwellings. Later reaching Agdz the valley will be gone and barren gorges will lead us to Ouarzazate. We pass the city and make a stop at the phenomenal Ksar of Ait BenHaddou -you’ll get to feel the ancient history of the caravans and how important this sheltered stop was to them at one time. Then we cross the panoramic route over the High Atlas to Marrakech.
Tip: This trip can be done in reverse starting in Marrakech and ending in Fes.
