Useful Information About the Traversing to Southern Morocco Tour

This tour is accessible to all with no minimum age – though consider the driving distances for the elderly and small children. The drive on the first day of this tour is long and therefore can be tiring for small children.

Guests do not need any special equipment for this tour. However, if you are traveling in the summer, please bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. For riding camels, longer pants are preferred to shorts/skirts and light sports shoes are better than sandals that can easily slip off.

Winter nights in the desert are cold, so warm jackets and even hats are a great addition. And remember that sand gets everywhere, so if you have some expensive equipment, keep it in zip-lock bags to protect it against sand grains.

Erg Chebbi and Southern Morocco Tour Itinerary

Day 1Casablanca – Midelt – Erfourd – Merzouga and Erg Chebbi Dunes

We collect you early in the morning from your hotel in Casablanca and provide a direct transfer to Merzouga and its splendid desert dunes of Erg Chebbi. This is a long drive of about 10 hours. At first, we travel along the highway before entering the Middle Atlas. We then continue to Midelt, the apple capital of Morocco. After traveling several hours further, we come to the Ziz palm grove valley and then the old garrison town of Erfourd. Later we pass through Rissani and arrive in a 4WD at our Erg Chebbi desert luxury camp just in time for the evening. Settle in, watch your first sunset on the desert dunes, and then enjoy dinner and a campfire.

Tip: Instead of the long day drive, you can book direct flights with Royal Air Maroc. The flights leave Casablanca at 11 pm and arrive at midnight. We can collect you from the airport at midnight.

    Day 2Merzouga Desert Sea

Today is devoted to stunning Saharan landscapes and unforgettable desert experiences. In the morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we head into the dunes on a camel caravan to admire the beautiful landscape and embrace adventure, feeling like the old caravan traders who traversed the desert on camels.

We’ll enjoy a Moroccan tea ceremony in the shade and have a picnic lunch in the desert, at the oasis, or back in camp. In the afternoon, relax in the camp with an incredible view surrounding you.

Day 3Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Draa Valley

We depart this morning towards Erfourd and then further to the Tinerhir that leads to Todra Gorge. This gorge is spectacular, with tall walls looming over the crystal-clear water. You may even spot Nomads here. Then we continue towards the Sahro mountains (with their superb views), a route that takes us to the Draa Valley – a rich forest of palm trees and world-famous earthen architecture. Here, you will find over 300 typical Berber villages where homes are constructed entirely from the raw earth.

Spend the night in a restored ancient Kasbah or luxury villa inside the palm groves.

    Day 4Draa Valley – Agdz – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

Today’s drive takes us to Marrakech, our final destination. We will travel along the valley and by typical villages until we reach Agdz. Here, the mountainous landscape of barren gorges leads us to Ouarzazate. Nearby in Ouarzazate, we stop for lunch, You also have time to visit the UNESCO-protected Ksar of Ait BenHaddou. Many movies have been made here, including Gladiator, and more recently the TV show Game of Thrones. It is an impressive structure that any visitor to Morocco should include in their adventure! We then start climbing the Tizi n’Tichka pass that crosses the High Atlas to Marrakech.

Tip: The tour can be done in reverse starting in Marrakech and ending in Casablanca, either driving or on a Royal Air Maroc flight.
