Agadir or Essaouira (only 1 night in desert with Essouira)
This tour is not available in July and August. We would not recommend it for young children. Guests do not need any special equipment. However, if you are traveling in summer please bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. When riding camels, longer pants are preferred over shorts/skirts and we advise wearing light sports shoes rather than sandals that can slip off.
Winter nights in the desert are cold! So warm jackets and even hats are a great addition. And remember, sand gets everywhere! So if you have some expensive equipment, keep it in a zip-lock bag to keep it safe from sand grains.
On this private tour of Morocco, we will collect you early in the morning. Today’s drive to the desert dunes of Erg Chigaga is long yet beautiful with an always changing landscape. First, we will travel along the Sous Massa Valley. This area is very fertile and many farms are located here. The region is mostly known for citrus plants and saffron spices in Taliouline.
We then have the option to stop in Taznakht, if you wish, to visit a carpet cooperative. Taznakht is a typical Berber town where the carpet-making tradition is still very strong. When we get back on the road again, the landscape will soon change again as we enter the Anti Atlas, leading us to Foum Zquid. Here we leave the paved road behind and feel the thrill of around two hours of off-road driving to the center of the Erg Chigaga desert dunes. On the drive, we view the Fata Morgana Lake of Iriqui.
We arrive at our Erg Chigaga luxury desert camp just before sunset. We recommend climbing one of the dunes for a memorable sundown followed by dinner and a campfire.
Spend the day enjoying the stunning, serene wilderness of the Erg Chigaga dunes with some desert experiences, like camel trekking and sandboarding.
This morning we set off on another off-road route through the desert landscape to Mhamid. Here, we reunite with the tarmac road and continue further north. Today’s drive takes us through the Draa Valley, home to over three million date palms and hundreds of kasbahs. We make a stop at the famous green glazed pottery in Tamengroute and the ancient Koranic library.
Spend the night in a 150-year-old restored Kasbah or luxury villa in the palm grove oasis.
Today, we head for our final destination… Marrakech! And you’re in for a treat as we pass through some beautiful landscapes along the way. At first, we continue our drive through the adobe-like villages. The valley then disappears as we cross the mountainous landscape of barren gorges to Ouarzazate. Nearby Ouarzazate, we stop at the Ksar of Ait BenHaddou, the postcard-perfect ancient Ksar.
Our route then takes us via the High Atlas Mountains and Tizi n’Tichka pass (alt. 2,260ft) to Marrakech.
Tip: it is possible to do the tour in reverse order. You can also add a day. Drop-off or pick-up can be in Essaouira instead.
